A day in the life of a Risk Manager

Imagine stepping into the world of a Risk Manager at Lloyds Bank, where every day is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact. As the first rays of the morning sun peek through the windows, you find yourself at the heart of the NFR&EC department, ready to tackle the challenges ahead.

Your day begins with a meeting, where you represent your department in cross-functional projects and working groups. You’re the go-to expert, the central point of contact for Agile Transformation. With finesse, you interpret guidelines and regulatory requirements, guiding your team through the complex compliance landscapes. Your expertise is invaluable, making you an indispensable part of the journey.

Mid-morning, you dive into refining existing policies and process instructions, such as the 2nd Line Engagement. Your proactive approach ensures that our control procedures and risk management strategies not only meet but exceed regulatory and legal requirements. Integrity and efficiency are your guiding principles, and your efforts help maintain the smooth operation of our organization.

As the day progresses, you shift focus to governance requirements within the Change Management Lifecycle. Your keen oversight ensures that business units adhere to necessary guidelines, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence. You navigate through the intricacies of compliance with a steady hand, ensuring that everything is on track.

Lunchtime provides a brief respite, but your mind is always churning with new ideas. Your phone rings, and you’re the point of contact for employees, auditors, supervisors, and investigating authorities. Building and managing strong relationships comes naturally to you, and your efforts maintain our reputation for transparency and reliability.

The afternoon is dedicated to training sessions. You conduct and organize compliance-relevant training, empowering teams with the knowledge they need to excel in their roles. Your passion for compliance and risk management shines through, leaving a lasting impact on everyone you interact with.

As the day winds down, you develop pragmatic and risk-oriented solutions to strengthen our compliance structures within the 2nd line of defense. Your contributions are instrumental in fortifying our defenses and ensuring the long-term success of Lloyds Bank.

Which team will you be joining?

We are the Department Non-Financial Risk & Economic Crime (NFR&EC). We are a team forming part of the 2nd line of defense and we are responsible for both Amsterdam and Berlin. This is why also our team members take care of business stakeholders across the boarders as well. Our colleagues are from different countries, but all of them are either living in The Netherlands or in Germany. 

Within the NFR&EC Department, you have the Financial Crime & Change Team. We are working in a very dynamic environment focusing on economic crime prevention and change risk management. With 12 colleagues in the team, we are looking for a person who will taking care on change risk management activities by supporting, ensuring, and advising colleagues from the agile transforming - building a bridge to requirements setting from 2nd Line point of view. 

We are striving to ensure sustainable growth for the company. This means that we are tasked to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. At the same time, we want to enable the business with proactive and risk-based decisions on how to implement these requirements, to grow our company safely but also efficiently.

Overall, the team is responsible for monitoring and reporting risks and supports the Management Board as well as the business teams in their decision making. So, we are looking for a person who engages in frequent dialogue with Stakeholders, managing their expectations with the aim to understand the impact of change from a customer & 'front line' colleague perspective, ensures issues are addressed prior to implementation. Some important skills & capabilities

  • Completed university degree with a focus on law or economics (Master's degree or state examination)
  • Understanding of project management
  • Stakeholder management
  • High level of comprehension
  • Ability to present complex information in an understandable manner
  • Strong self-motivation and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a self-driven manner
  • Experience in oversight activities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
